What the codes are
- CVX is the CDC code for the vaccine given. Immunization registries (IIS) such as NYSIIS and the NYC Citywide Immunization Registry ask for it with every shot.
- MVX is the CDC code for the manufacturer, also reported to registries.
- CPT is the code for billing the vaccine product. The administration is billed separately (for Medicare, G0008 for flu and 90480 for COVID-19; 90471–90474 otherwise).
- NDC: the box (unit of sale) and the single dose inside it (unit of use) have different NDCs. Registries generally record the unit-of-use NDC; for claims, follow the payer's NDC rules. The tool shows both and links them.
Codes are from the CDC IIS vaccine code sets, checked every week. CDC maps CPT codes to CVX for registry use and notes the mapping doesn't decide billing; check payer rules, and see Medicare prices in the drug pricing lookup.
