Medicare covers one depression screening per year.
- Not covered when billed with G0402 (Welcome to Medicare visit) or G0438 (first Annual Wellness Visit), per NCCI.
- Covered when billed with G0439 (subsequent Annual Wellness Visit) and with an E/M visit.
The screening typically uses a questionnaire the patient completes, sometimes with help from the primary care provider.
